Turning surface science into modern, high performance technology
Kibron Inc. was established in 1994 by some of the leading pioneers in the field of surface science, headed by Dr. Paavo Kinnunen, reputed for contributions and innovations in scientific instrumentation. Dr. Kinnunen was the founder of KSV Instruments Ltd. (the "K"), where he designed the first generation of Langmuir- and Langmuir-Blodgett troughs, hundreds of instruments now in use all over the world. Dr. Kinnunen divested himself from KSV Instruments Ltd. in 1988 to develop the next generation of surface chemistry equipment, manufactured and marketed by Kibron Inc. since 1994.
Conventionally, the measurement of surface tension has only been possible in well equipped laboratories, and required trained personnel. The measurements were technically demanding and slow to perform. The mission of Kibron was to modernize surface tension measurement technology to allow its use in applications ranging from industrial, automated high throughput screening to portable, battery operated equipment for environmental monitoring, with high reliability, precision, and sensitivity.
A new technology was born
After several years of R&D Kibron completed a revolutionary new sensor. In combination with the most accurate measurement principle (duNouy) the Kibron sensor solved the task and a totally new technology was born, meeting the needs of the industry.
The technology was thoroughly tested in the first Kibron product, the highly sophisticated multipurpose Langmuir-trough ‘MicroTroughX’, now used in leading-edge laboratories worldwide.
Kibron's technology was subsequently integrated into the company's flagship product, the Kibron Delta-8 > the very first high throughput system using standard 96-well microtiter platform for surface activity profiling. Very small sample volumes could now be measured more than 100 times faster compared to existing techniques, with unprecedented precision.
Multinational companies rely on Kibron technology
Kibron’s technology brings significant advantages for our clients within the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, as well as in academic research labs.
Physicochemical profiling of drugs, optimization of surfactant based formulations, and surface chemistry studies can now be accomplished significantly faster and cost-efficiently, bringing better and more competitive products to the market. Global pharmaceutical and chemical multinational giants rely today on Kibron technology in their R&D.
The speed and ease-of-use of Kibron’s technology have opened up new application areas such as environmental monitoring and educational use on all levels: with the portable Kibron AquaPi measurements can be made quickly and easily, practically anywhere.
